The bear trail

3 days, 2 night

Looking for bears in Sonfjället N.P.

Located about 3.5 hours drive from Falun and 2.5 hours from the town of Mora, you will spend your first night at our back-to-basics basecamp in a fully equipped glamping tent. Leave your worries and stress behind and relax at our campsite surrounded by Swedish nature. The camp is situated on a more than 100-year-old summer farm, where farmers used to let their cattle graze during the summer and then return to their permanent farms in the winter. The goats and sheep roam freely and are not shy to come say hello at your campsite.

Life on the farm is simple, and we want you to experience your stay in the same way. You’ll boil your own water to make coffee, chop your own wood for a campfire or to heat the stove in your tent on colder days. Pick up some groceries along the way for your dinner and breakfast the next morning. You’ll do the dishes in the shared outdoor kitchen using rainwater. And if you want to wash with warm water, you’ll first heat it over your campfire or stove. No Wi-Fi, no fuss, no stress. All of this in a beautiful location, right in the heart of Swedish nature.

The next day, the adventure really begins. Together with an experienced outdoor guide, you will drive to the nearby Dalsvallen, an old settlement of forest workers at the southern entrance of Sonfjället National Park. Not only is this one of the oldest national parks in Sweden, but it is also believed to be the area with the highest bear population in the country, making it an excellent location for our wildlife tour. After a cup of coffee and something sweet, known as Swedish ‘fika,’ the hike begins towards the cozy forest cabin where you will spend the night.
